Description
Paeonia lactiflora 'Nippon Gold' has a delicate fragrance. It is a graceful garden peony that does not need any support. The dark green foliage shows its lactiflora heritage. It is classified as a Japanese type peony and belongs to the group of late flowering varieties. This makes it a lovely addition to help extend the flowering season.
Soft pink guard petals surround a tuft of yellow staminodes. Staminodes are slender petals that come from the stamens and therefore contain no pollen. Carpels are present, however, and this vigorous grower is the parent of several well-known Don Hollingsworth registered varieties such as 'My Love', 'Lavon', 'La Donna' and 'Sandra Marie'. Several are available in our catalogue or in the coming years.
Registered with the American Peony Society in 1929
