Description
Paeonia lactiflora "Madame de Vernéville". This double almost bomb-like flower is graced with a lovely rose fragrance and has been recognized by Lavon Hollingsworth as one of the best scented peonies. The crème-coloured flowers show an occasional splash of red on the petal tips.
A sturdy growing variety producing a profusion of medium sized flowers. So, cutting an occasional flower for a vase or floral arrangement is certainly allowed. :) A classic French variety that may require some support in the garden but, it is certainly worth while the effort.
If you remove the secondary buds at the size of a pea, the peony creates an even larger flower, which you might keep in a bowl of simply in a vase.
Cut your peonies with care, to make them last a week or more. For more information, click here.
Dates from 1851.
