Peony 'Red Grace'

Description

Paeonia herbaceous hybrid 'Red Grace' is a real showstopper. Its flower buds are a captivating mix of ruby red petals that transform into stunning globes as the colour flows from ruby to a warm red. These flowers are born on sturdy stems, surrounded by vibrant green foliage. In adverse weather, some support might be helpful. This vigorous grower absolutely deserves a bright, sunny spot in your garden.

As well as being a lovely addition to your garden, 'Red Grace' is also a valuable cut flower. It has a long vase life compared to some of the other prized early red peonies of 'officinalis' origin such as P. 'Red Charm'. Cutting 'Red Grace' is not for the faint-hearted. You need to be very patient. The reward is a ballet-like performance, unfolding row after row of petals to form a massive ball.

It is an early bloomer and combined with classic peonies will extend the peony flowering season by several weeks. 'Red Grace' is less well known but is undoubtedly a beautiful, graceful and desirable peony.
