Peony 'Roland'

Peony 'Roland'

Description

Paeonia lactiflora 'Roland' is one of those vibrant peonies that will brighten up your garden in the middle of the peony season. Its cerise-coloured flowers, with two rows of petals and a pollen-bearing centre, bring joy not only to the gardener, but also to bees and other pollinators. The numerous flower buds open in turn, displaying buds, flowers and seedpods simultaneously.

The seedpods contain many little treasures, and who knows what they have in store for the very patient gardener? Offspring from peony seeds will not resemble their parent cultivars, but the mystery is solved when the first flowers appear after three to five years.

The medium-sized flowers are positioned just above the healthy, dark green foliage. This sturdy grower, which we should mention is very floriferous ;) does not require any support.

This variety was selected and registered by Roy Klehm of Song Sparrow Farm & Nursery in 2003.
