Description
Paeonia lactiflora 'Douglas Brand'. Peony varieties originating from the peony nursery in Faribault, Minnesota, USA — which operated for over 125 years under the ownership of the Brand family, followed by Ms Gentry and then the Tischlers — were among the finest. Over time, we managed to acquire some of their treasures. Last year we harvested P. 'Bob'. This autumn, P. 'Douglas Brand' will be ready for harvesting and division.
The showy, double flowers of P. 'Douglas Brand' measure 20–25 cm in diameter. They are globular in shape and brimming with petals. Their colour is a vibrant, velvety cerise red. This upright, bushy herbaceous peony boasts attractive broad dark green foliage. Its erect stems hold scented flowers with multiple side buds, and it blooms later in the season. A gem for the garden and vase, it was named Grand Champion at the Minneapolis National Exhibition in 1971.
Registered with the American Peony Society in 1972.
