Peony 'Nosegay'

Peony 'Nosegay'

Description

Paeonia herbaceous hybrid 'Nosegay'. This cutie is one of our favourites. With its early blooms, it heralds the start of the peony season. Its simple, softly scented flowers, in a blend of soft pastels, grace the finely dissected, lime-green foliage. Its parentage includes tenuifolia and mlokosewitchii.

In medieval times, a nosegay was a small bouquet of flowers designed to please the nose. Posy holders, often made of silver, were used to wear these at your waist or in your hair. I can easily imagine 'Nosegay' being part of this tradition.

Registered with the "American Peony Society" in 1950.
