Peony 'Fragrans'

Peony 'Fragrans'

Description

Paeonia lactiflora "Fragrans". As for heritage varieties, this one is a clear stand-out. Registered and introduced by Sir Joseph Banks, P. "Fragrans" has a long and distinguished history. Sir Joseph Banks, renowned for his numerous plant introductions, became horticultural and garden adviser to Kew in 1771, a post he held until his death in 1820. In 2020, this bicentennial was commemorated.

The reintroduction of this quintessential peony in Europe was long overdue, and it came to us from the collection of Hollingsworth nursery in the U.S. P. "Fragrans" has survived for this very reason: it is a resilient and robust grower. Its flowers are double, cone-shaped and medium-sized, and it boasts both an old-fashioned colour and a delightful soft scent. It is an essential addition for anyone with a passion for history and straightforward care.

Registered in 1805. Would like more information about Joseph Banks, please click the "more peonies by: ...."link below.
