Herbaceous peony roots

The peony roots are grown for 4 years. We do not use chemical fertilisers to force feed them, and as they grow slowly they remain healthy and vigorous. In the autumn they are harvested, thoroughly washed and divided. At Graefswinning most is done by hand to ensure that the eyes or roots do not break. The main divisions are sold and the smaller ones are replanted to complete the cycle.

Autumn is the ideal time to plant your roots. Let the winter work its magic and as spring approaches, new growth will begin to show. Our herbaceous peonies often flower in the first year.
