Peony Charlie's White

Peony Charlie's White

Paeonia lactiflora "Charlie's White". A dome of crème and white petaloids rests on a base of large white guard petals. The softly scented flowers are very pleasing on the eye.  Dark green foliage and strong stems complete the picture. A classic peony, ideal for the cutting garden and border. A seedling of Monsieur Jules Elie and the parent and grandparent of several beauties of the Klehm’s nursery.

It was named for Charles Christian Klehm. Alongside his two brothers, at the age of 12, Charles started to work in the nursery of his father John. He developed a love for flowers and peonies in particular. In 1916, he planted his first peony fields where P. “Charlie's White”, P. “Emma Klehm” and  many more varieties of the Klehm Estate Peonies were hybridised. As one of the first members of the American Peony Society, he judged peonies and contributed to the establishment of this over a century old Society.
