Description
Paeonia lactiflora 'Katharine Havemeyer'. A quintessential peony flower, overflowing with pearly pink petals. The dark green foliage is a fitting backdrop for the buds which develop from small pompoms into full double flowers. The stems are strong but may need some support depending on the look and feel of your garden.
Several side buds extend the flowering season of this prolific bloomer. The flowers have a strong fragrance and are sometimes described by visitors as lily of the valley.
A variety named after Katherine Havemeyer, the wife of Theodore Havemeyer (1868- 1936) horticulturist, garden writer and avid collector of lilacs, dahlias, irises and peonies. He worked together with Victor Lemoine, the famous nurseryman from Nancy in France!
Registered with the 'American Peony Society' in 1921.
